Happy birthday, Erastus Hussey (Dec. 5, 1800 – Jan. 21, 1889)! #Quaker. #Abolitionist. Erastus and his wife, Sarah, moved to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1839, and their home (at the corner of Washington & Manchester Streets) soon became one of the main stops on the Underground Railroad. In 1848 Erastus started an abolitionist newspaper called the “Michigan Liberty Press.” Buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Battle Creek, Michigan.
