Happy birthday, Henry Cadbury (Dec. 1, 1883 – Oct. 7, 1974)! #Quaker. #Pacifist. #Agnostic. Historian. Biblical scholar. Social activist. Helped found the American Friends Service Committee in 1917. Cadbury was an “advocate for Quakerism without mysticism, unity based on love rather than dogma, beliefs as collateral effects rather than sources of action, ethical living as religion, and the possibility of life as spontaneous response to passing situations.” Buried in the Friends Southwestern Burial Ground, Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
